Have a taste for reproductions? At The Gathering, we are very pleased to bring you many fine antiques and superb historical reproductions with their roots planted deeply in our nation’s past! We are very selective in the reproductions that we offer, searching the country for only the best, most accurate products that we feel best represent our nation’s rich history. Our latest featured company is Family Heirloom Weavers, a small textile company seated right in the heart of historical Pennsylvania Dutch country. One of the last surviving U.S. textile mills; this small family owned and operated business is located in Red Lion PA, where they make good use of old, outdated power looms, faithfully and painstakingly reproducing textiles for the period home. No short cuts for this small company, setups are still painstakingly done by hand. Following centuries old traditions, they thread over a thousand heddles (needles) in one day just to reproduce one piece.

Woven textiles have a rich history in our culture. Beginning in colonial times, woven cotton and woolen coverlets, often referred to as “home-spuns” became an indispensable asset in most homes. Unlike a "brides quilt", the coverlet was less a form of decorative pride and more of a staple for the everyday use. "Home-Spun" is today, a very broad term which is widely misused. Originally, this term meant an undyed woolen yarn spun and woven at home. These yarns were often coarse, rugged, and uneven; woven as a plain weave only. Most often, they were woven as a solid, stripe or simple check, used by peasants and country folk. Family Heirloom Weavers reproduces all items as close as possible to the originals. This means the blankets and coverlets are seamed together. Most items vary in degrees of color which is consistent with the time period and use of vegetable, nut, plant and bugs.
